maria's journey
This piece is about my mother's journey as an immigrant to this country. The apron is representative of her eagerness to serve others throughout her life. The empty contour of El Salvador in the center shows what she left behind. This is also depicted by the sadness in the eyes set in the backdrop of the universe, which depicts the difficulty of leaving behind loved ones to pursue larger hopes and dreams. The plants depict the seeds she planted in her new country, and the two butterflies represent my brother and I.
